Video Department Produces 160 Video Productions during 2009-1010 School Year
Yes, you heard that right. The Silver Falls School District Video Department in partnership with SCAN-TV produced over 160 video productions this past school year.
Many students were kept very busy. In fact very very busy. There are some very talented students who contributed to the success of these productions and Kirsten Barnes and myself are very proud
to be the mentors and teachers of these kids. Some of them, I am sure, will go on to be very successful in the multimedia world.
Here is an example list of just a few of the productions that were produced;
Silverton High School Drama Plays, SHS Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer,Wrestling and other sport events. School Board, City Council, and Planning Commission
meetings. FIrst Citizen Award Banquet, Winter and Spring Band and Choir Concerts. Various political forums and debates. Brushcreek Playhouse Plays, Ballet performances and
a musical performed by the American Academy of Performing Arts called Mary Poppins,
We also produced many of the Christmas and Spring programs performed by a number of the elementary schools in the district. Did I mention, Mark Twain and Silverton Graduatio and
the dedication of the new rodeo wall mural at the TNT gas station? Yes, we were there.
Anyway, I could go on and on. But I think you get the point. We broke all previous records of the number of productions we covered. Now however, we are looking straight in the
face of a new year and therefor the question arises, "Will the Video Production Department be able to produce 160 video productions, or better yet, more than 160 productions this year. Well, only time will tell. But
if I was a betting man I would bet that with the creative minds of the students here at SIlverton High School we will.
Stay tuned.
As a side note, any of the DVDs that we produce are for Sale. We keep all productions saved on our server and they are available upon request.

Silver Falls School District Wins $41,000 grant for expanding bandwidth fiber lines.
1-23-10 On January the 15th, Silver Falls School District received notice from the Education Enterprise Steering Committee that they had been awarded a $41,532 grant. This is very exciting news for
SFSD since it will allow us to expand our current fiber connectivity to other schools outside the city limits. Currently 5 schools are connected through WaveBroadband's fiber network and it gives
those schools plenty of bandwidth to use resources on the web such as testing and research. SFSD's outlying schools presently do not have a fiber connection so their internet connection is
minimal, thus restricting the type of testing and research students need to have access to on the web.
With this grant it is the hope of the district to increase the the bandwidth for as many schools as possible in the district that are out of WaveBroadbands currently fiber connectivity. WaveBroadband is
being very helpful in trying to come up with creative solutions to get fiber out to those schools.

Silver Falls School District Technology Plan for 2009-2011 approved by Oregon Dept of Education
After a great deal of thought, energy, and hard work the SFSD Technology Plan for years 2009-2011 was approved by ODE in September of 2009. Various members of the District Technology Committee
met together over an extended period of time to come up with a practical and agressive plan to help our students gain important skills in the use of technology for the 21st Century.
It was an important goal for all members to make this plan practical and helpful to staff, students, and administrators alike.
